Booking a pro
in Liverpool.
Liverpool homes come with their own quirks. Long rows of Victorian terraces run across Wavertree, Kensington and the Dingle, with narrow back entries and little room for a van. Near the city centre, Georgian houses around Rodney Street and Canning Street sit inside conservation areas, and converted dock buildings and riverside flats bring lifts, loading bays and building managers into the picture.
AYS Concierge is new and opens area by area, so we are not claiming a full team of pros in every L postcode yet. Enter your postcode to see who covers your street today. If you are a Liverpool cleaner, roofer, plumber or mobile barber, you can join now and choose the postcode districts you want to work in.
Terraces, Georgian townhouses and dockside flats
A large share of Liverpool's housing is the Victorian and Edwardian terrace, built for dock and port workers. The Welsh Streets in Toxteth were built by Welsh workers and named after Welsh villages, and many similar rows stand across the south and north of the city. These homes often have older pipework, solid walls and roofs that have taken years of wind off the Mersey estuary.
Around Rodney Street, Canning Street and Princes Park, tall Georgian and Victorian houses have often been split into flats, with shared stairs and high ceilings that need longer ladders. When you book, tell the pro whether you live in a terrace, a converted house or a flat, which floor you are on, and whether access is from the front or a back entry.
Good to know
before you book.
Local things that change how a job is done, or what it costs.
Conservation areas
Liverpool City Council lists 36 conservation areas, including Rodney Street, Canning Street, Sefton Park, Lark Lane, Woolton Village and Wavertree Village. Some homes are also covered by Article 4 directions, so changes to windows, doors, roofs or front walls may need planning permission. Check the council's conservation area map before booking work on the outside of your home.
Match days and event parking
Streets around Anfield and Everton's stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock have event day parking restrictions, with permit zones signed at bay and area entry points. A pro with a van may not be able to park near you on a match or event day. Check the council's website for the current zones and plan the visit for another day if you can.
Student lets and landlord licensing
Students from the University of Liverpool, Liverpool John Moores and Liverpool Hope fill many terraces around Smithdown Road, Wavertree and Kensington, so end of tenancy cleans and moves bunch up in early summer. Liverpool also runs selective licensing for many private rented homes, and the council has consulted on what follows. Landlords should check the council's website for the current scheme.
Clean air and soft water
Liverpool chose to tackle air quality without a charging clean air zone, but rules can change, so check the council's website for the current position. Water comes from United Utilities, which says most of its North West supply is soft, so limescale is usually less of a problem here than in much of southern England.

Home cleaning
End of tenancy cleans in student terraces around Smithdown Road and Kensington, often needed at the same time each summer when tenancies end.

Slipped slates, ridge repairs and gutters on Victorian terraces that face westerly winds blowing in off the Mersey and the Irish Sea.
Removals
Moves in and out of city centre and dockside flats, where a pro needs to know about loading bays, lifts and building rules.
Painting and decorating
Tall rooms, cornicing and long staircases in Georgian and Victorian houses around Rodney Street, Canning Street and Princes Park.
Plumbing
Leaks, tired radiators and older pipework in terraced homes, where pipes often run under floorboards and through narrow back kitchens.

Do I need permission for work on a house in a Liverpool conservation area?
It depends on the work and the street. Liverpool has 36 conservation areas, and some homes are covered by Article 4 directions that bring changes to the outside of a building, such as windows, doors or roofs, under planning control. Check the council's conservation area map and contact its planning team before booking, and tell the pro if your home is listed.
Can a pro park outside my house on a match day?
Often not easily. Event day restrictions apply on streets around Anfield and the new Everton stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock, and the council can apply them for other big events too. If you live nearby, tell the pro your street and avoid booking on a match or event day where you can. Check the council's website for the current zones.
Will a van be charged to drive into Liverpool?
Liverpool City Council decided to improve air quality without a charging clean air zone when it last reviewed the options. Rules can change, and the Mersey tunnels have their own tolls, so check the council's website and the tunnel operator for the current position if your pro is travelling in from the Wirral.
