Removals, man and van,
moving made simpler.
A full house move, a flat move across town, or one sofa that needs collecting. Find local removals and man and van pros who cover your postcode.
What to expect
from your pro.
Moving goes much more smoothly when the people doing it know exactly what they are moving. A wardrobe that will not fit down the stairs or a missing parking space can turn a morning job into a long day. Clear details at the start save time, stress and surprises on the day.
On AYS you can book simple jobs, like collecting a single item, at a fixed price shown before you pay. For house and flat moves, you describe what is going, both addresses and any access issues, and local removals and man and van pros send a quote. A room by room list, or a few photos, helps them send the right size van and the right number of people.
Before you book, ask whether loading and unloading is included, whether they will dismantle beds and wardrobes, and what insurance they carry for goods in transit. Ask what happens if a move runs late, especially if you are waiting on keys from an estate agent or solicitor.

How the price
is worked out
Simple jobs, like moving a single item, can be booked at a fixed price shown upfront. House and flat moves are quoted. What changes the price: how much you are moving, the distance, how many people are needed, stairs and lift access, parking at each end, dismantling furniture, packing, and the day and time of the move. Quotes are free with no obligation to accept.
How to get
ready
- Make a room by room list of large items and roughly how many boxes.
- Sort parking at both addresses and check whether you need a council permit or bay suspension.
- Measure large furniture and narrow doors or stairs at the new place.
- Pack and label boxes by room, and keep a separate bag of essentials with you.
- Defrost and dry the fridge freezer the day before if it is coming with you.
Choosing the right pro
Every removals pro on AYS passes a photo ID check and a review by our team before taking bookings. Pros can upload insurance, such as goods in transit and public liability cover, which we check and show on their profile. Ask what their cover includes, any limits per item, and whether packing you did yourself is covered.
What is the difference between removals and a man and van?
A man and van is usually one van and one or two people, which suits flats, student moves, smaller loads and single items. A removals service usually means a bigger vehicle, a larger crew and often extras like packing and dismantling. For a full family home, a bigger team often makes the day quicker and safer.
How do I know what size van I need?
The easiest way is to list what is going, room by room, including large items like beds, sofas, wardrobes, white goods and roughly how many boxes. Add it to your request with a few photos. Local pros will then quote for the vehicle and crew size they think fits, and you can compare.
Are my belongings insured during the move?
It depends on the mover. Many carry goods in transit insurance, but cover levels and exclusions vary, and items you packed yourself may be treated differently. Ask each mover what they cover before you book. You can also check whether your own home contents insurance covers belongings during a move.
Do removals pros dismantle furniture?
Many do, but not always as standard. Beds, wardrobes and large tables often need to come apart to fit through doors and into the van. Say what needs dismantling in your request so it is included in the quote, and keep screws and fittings in labelled bags.
How far in advance should I book a removal?
As early as you can, once you have a likely move date. On AYS you can book anything from 2 hours to 90 days ahead. Free cancellation runs up to 24 hours before the start time, so if your completion date moves you can change plans. Weekends and month ends are often busier.
Do I need a parking permit for the removal van?
It depends on the street. If there are permit bays, yellow lines or limited parking at either address, you may need to arrange a parking suspension or permit with the local council in advance. Check with the council and let your mover know where the van can stop.
