A logo,
that fits you.
A new logo for a new business, a refresh of an old one, or the cards and graphics to go with it. Find a designer and agree the details first.
What to expect
from your pro.
A logo is often the first thing people see of your business, on a van, a sign, a website or a social media profile. Good logo design is simple, easy to recognise and works at any size, from a tiny app icon to the side of a shop.
On AYS you can find designers for logos, brand identity, business cards and social media graphics. Some offer a fixed price package with a set number of ideas and changes. For bigger brand work, describe what you need and pros send a quote. Tell them what your business does, who your customers are, and any colours or styles you like or dislike.
Agree two things before work starts. First, the files you will receive: usually a vector master file, such as SVG, EPS or AI, plus PNG and JPG versions, in colour, black and white. Second, the rights. Under UK law the designer usually owns the copyright in a commissioned logo unless you agree otherwise in writing, so ask for a signed copyright assignment if you want to own it outright.

How the price
is worked out
Some logo packages can be booked at a fixed price shown before you pay, with the number of ideas and changes set out. Larger brand projects are quoted. What changes the price: how many first ideas you get, rounds of changes, extra items like cards or templates, the file formats supplied, and whether full copyright is assigned to you. Quotes are free and you are not obliged to accept one.
How to get
ready
- Write a few lines on what your business does and who it is for.
- Collect logos you like and dislike, and note why.
- List everywhere the logo will appear, from website to van.
- Check your business name and any tagline are final.
- Decide who will give feedback, so changes come from one place.
Choosing the right pro
Every designer on AYS passes a photo ID check and a review by our team before they can take bookings. Pros can also upload qualifications for us to check, shown on their profile. Look at their past work, ask whether every design is original, and check what files and rights are included before you agree.
Do I own the copyright in my logo?
Not automatically. Under UK copyright law, the person who creates a commissioned work is usually its first owner unless you agree otherwise in writing. To own your logo outright, ask the designer for an assignment of copyright. To be effective it must be in writing and signed by the designer. Otherwise, make sure you at least have a clear licence to use it.
What file formats should I get?
Ask for a vector master file, such as SVG, EPS, AI or PDF, which can be resized without losing quality. You will also want PNG files with a transparent background for screens, and JPG files for general use. Get colour, black and white versions, and the colour codes for print and screen.
How many logo ideas will I see?
It depends on the package. Many designers show a few first ideas, then refine your favourite through an agreed number of rounds of changes. Check this before you book, along with what happens if you want more changes than the package includes.
Should I trademark my logo?
Copyright and trade marks are different. Copyright covers the design itself, while a registered trade mark can protect your brand name or logo in trade. Registering is optional and done through the Intellectual Property Office. If you plan to register, make sure you own the copyright in the logo first and that it is original.
What is the difference between a logo and a brand identity?
A logo is the mark itself. A brand identity is the wider set of choices around it: colours, fonts, how the logo is placed, and the style of images. A simple identity keeps your website, cards and social posts consistent, even when different people make them.
Can a designer fix my old blurry logo?
Usually yes. A designer can redraw it as a clean vector file, keeping the look but making it sharp at any size. Send the best copy you have, ideally the largest or clearest version, and tell them if you want small improvements at the same time.
