What to expect
from your pro.

Some journeys deserve more than a taxi rank. An early flight with heavy luggage, a wedding where the timing matters, a client who needs collecting from the station, a night out where nobody wants to drive. A chauffeur service means a pre-booked driver, a clean car and a plan agreed before the day.

On AYS you enter your postcode and see chauffeurs who cover your area. Describe the journey: pick-up and drop-off points, date and time, number of passengers, luggage, and any stops or waiting time. Local drivers send you a quote, and you choose the one that suits you. For simple transfers you may see a fixed price.

In England and Wales, a car and driver taken for hire with a booking normally need private hire licences from the local council, or from Transport for London in London. The driver, the vehicle and the operator taking the booking are each licensed. Scotland and Northern Ireland have their own systems. Ask your chauffeur about their licence before you book.

Pricing

How the price
is worked out

Most chauffeur journeys are quoted, because no two are the same. Describe the trip and local drivers send a price. What changes the price: distance and journey time, the type of car, the number of passengers and bags, waiting time, early morning or late night hours, extra stops, parking and airport charges, and ribbons or decorations for weddings. Quotes are free and you are not obliged to accept one.

Before the visit

How to get
ready

  • Give exact pick-up and drop-off addresses, and the terminal or entrance for airports and venues.
  • Share flight or train numbers so the driver can plan for delays.
  • Say how many passengers and bags there are, and whether you need a child seat.
  • Agree how long the driver will wait and where you will meet them.
  • Keep the driver's details and the booking confirmation handy on the day.

Choosing the right pro

Every chauffeur on AYS passes a photo ID check and a review by our team before they can take bookings. We ask chauffeurs to upload their private hire licences and insurance, and the team checks what they send. A DBS certificate is also worth looking for on their profile. On the day, check that the driver and car match the booking before you get in.

FAQs

Chauffeur services:
your questions.

Something else? Ask us and a person will reply.

Does a chauffeur need a licence?

In England and Wales, a car and driver taken for hire with a booking normally need private hire licences. These are issued by the local council, or by Transport for London in London, and cover the driver, the vehicle and the operator taking the booking. Scotland and Northern Ireland run their own licensing. Some cars used only for weddings or funerals are exempt, so ask what licence and insurance cover the booking.

How do I check a London private hire licence?

Transport for London has an online licence checker for private hire drivers, vehicles and operators. You can search using the licence number on the driver's badge or the vehicle's licence disc. Outside London, your local council licenses private hire and can tell you how to check a licence in its area.

Can I flag down a chauffeur car in the street?

No. Private hire cars, including chauffeur cars, can only be pre-booked. They cannot pick up passengers who hail them in the street like a black cab. That is why you agree the journey in advance on AYS, with the pick-up time and place set before the day.

What happens if my flight is delayed?

Share your flight number when you book, so the driver can check arrival times. Ask in your request how much waiting time is included and what happens if you are held up for longer, as waiting time can affect the price. Agree a meeting point inside or outside the terminal.

Can I book a chauffeur for a wedding?

Yes. Give the addresses for each pick-up, the ceremony and the reception, plus timings and how many people need to travel. Say if you would like ribbons, a particular colour of car or a driver in uniform. Booking early helps, as popular dates fill up. Free cancellation applies up to 24 hours before the start time.

Is a child seat provided?

Not always, so say in your request if you are travelling with children and how old they are. Some chauffeurs can supply a suitable seat, others will ask you to bring your own. Agree this before the day, so the right seat is ready and fitted when the car arrives.
