Mobile detailing

What to expect
from your pro.

A mobile valeter or detailer comes to your home or workplace with everything needed to clean your car: pressure washer, vacuum, wash mitts, towels and products. Many carry their own water tank and power, so they are not relying on your outside tap or a socket.

Valeting and detailing are not quite the same thing. A valet is a thorough clean inside and out. Detailing goes further: removing tar and iron fallout, polishing out light swirls in the paint, cleaning the engine bay, or protecting the paintwork with a wax, sealant or ceramic coating. A good mobile detailer will look at the car first and tell you honestly what is realistic.

On AYS Concierge you enter your postcode and see valeters who cover your area. A standard wash or valet on a typical car often has a fixed price shown before you book. For paint correction, coatings, a very dirty interior, or a car you are getting ready to sell, describe the car and ask local pros for a quote.

Exterior wash

Snow foam, two-bucket hand wash, wheels and tyres cleaned, and a careful dry to avoid scratching the paint.

Full valet

Inside and out: vacuum, dashboard and door cards wiped, windows cleaned both sides, and a full hand wash.

Interior deep clean

Seats and carpets shampooed and extracted, stains treated, and the boot cleaned. Good for family cars and pet hair.

Paint correction

Machine polishing to reduce swirls, light scratches and dullness. Deep scratches through to primer cannot be polished out.

Ceramic coating or sealant

A protective layer applied after preparing the paint, so the car stays cleaner and is easier to wash.

Pre-sale or lease return clean

A car cleaned properly before you sell it or hand it back, so it looks cared for.

Smoke and odour treatment

Upholstery and headlining cleaned and odours treated. Strong smoke smells may take more than one visit to fade.

Regular maintenance wash

The same valeter visiting every few weeks to keep the car clean, usually a wash and quick interior tidy.

Pricing

How the price
is worked out

Standard washes and valets are often a fixed price you see before you book. Detailing work is usually quoted, because it depends on the car. What changes the price: the size of the vehicle, how dirty it is inside, pet hair, stains or mould, the condition of the paint, which protection product you choose, and whether the valeter needs their own water and power. Photos in your request help get an accurate quote.

Before the visit

How to get
ready

  • Take personal items out of the car, including the boot, door pockets and under the seats.
  • Check there is room around the car for the valeter to walk all the way round and park the van close by.
  • Let them know if they can use an outside tap and socket, or if they need to bring their own water and power.
  • Tell them about any marks, scratches or problem areas you want them to look at first.
  • Avoid booking in direct hot sun if you can, as products can dry too fast on hot paint.

Choosing the right pro

Every valeter and detailer is reviewed by the AYS team and passes a photo ID check before they can take bookings. We ask pros to upload their insurance and any training they have done, and the team checks what they send. Look at what each pro shows on their profile. For paint correction or coatings, ask about their experience with your type of paint before booking.

FAQs

Mobile detailing:
your questions.

Something else? Ask us and a person will reply.

What is the difference between a valet and a detail?

A valet is a thorough clean of the inside and outside of the car. A detail goes deeper and is usually about the paint: decontaminating it, polishing out swirl marks, then protecting it. Detailing takes much longer, often most of a day or more, so it is priced differently. Many people book a valet regularly and a detail once in a while.

Do mobile valeters need my water and electricity?

Some do and some do not. Many mobile valeters carry a water tank and a generator or battery power, so they can work in a street or car park. Others prefer to use an outside tap and socket if available. Say what you have when you book, and the valeter will tell you what they need.

Can you remove scratches from my car?

Light scratches and swirls in the clear coat can usually be reduced or removed with machine polishing. If you can catch a scratch with your fingernail, or it has gone through to the primer or bare metal, polishing will not fully remove it and it may need a bodyshop. A detailer can look at it and tell you.

Can a mobile valeter clean my car at work?

Often, yes, as long as they are allowed to work in the car park and there is space around the car. Check with your building or car park manager first, as some do not allow washing on site. A waterless or rinseless wash is sometimes used where running water is not allowed.

How long does a ceramic coating last?

It depends on the product, how well the paint was prepared, and how the car is washed and stored afterwards. Most coatings are sold with an expected lifespan from the manufacturer, which the detailer can explain. The prep work before coating takes most of the time, which is why a coating is usually a quoted job.

Can a valeter get dog hair out of my car?

Yes, though it takes time. Pet hair weaves into carpet and fabric seats, so it needs special brushes, rubber tools and a strong vacuum. Mention pets when you book, and include a photo if it is heavy, so the valeter can allow enough time. It may change the price on a fixed-price valet.
